Women Engaged in Governance
Women's meaningful participation in local governance and planning.

Why it was needed
Local planning committees shape services, budgets and priorities, and for too long they were made up almost entirely of men.
Objectives
- Increase women's participation in local governance and decision-making.
Achievements and outcomes
- Permanent seats secured for women, youth representatives and traditional chiefs within local planning committees, through the Women Agenda for Peace in Western Equatoria State policy.
Lessons learned
- Lasting change comes when participation is written into policy, not left to goodwill.
