Women for Sustainable Peace
Sub-national women's peace forums, female peace mediators, and cross-border psychosocial support networks.

Why it was needed
Women carry much of the burden of conflict and are too often absent from the forums where peace is decided. W4SP set out to put women at the centre of local peace processes, on both sides of the border.
Objectives
- Establish sub-national women's peace forums.
- Equip female peace mediators to resolve disputes in their communities.
- Manage cross-border psychosocial support networks for displaced women.
Achievements and outcomes
- Women's peace forums established at sub-national level.
- Female peace mediators trained and working in their communities.
- Collaborative advocacy that helped embed the Women Agenda for Peace into official Western Equatoria State policy, securing permanent seats for women, youth representatives and traditional chiefs in local planning committees.
Lessons learned
- Women's peace forums gain lasting influence when their agenda is written into official policy.
- Psychosocial support and mediation work best together: healing makes reconciliation possible.
